A TRIP TO FRANKFURT 2020
I know a travel post might not be the most suitable thing to write right now, but I still wanted to share my Frankfurt-favourites with you. I also know that many people don’t like that city – I get it. The surroundings of the main train station are a little dark and creepy, but I liked Frankfurt nonetheless. It´s such an interesting city with a nice contrast between old and new. The beautiful old town and the new, modern skyscrapers.
Ein Travelblogpost mag aktuell vielleicht nicht das Passendste sein, ich möchte aber trotzdem meine Lieblingsorte, Cafés und Momente unseres Trips mit euch teilen. Auch weiß ich, dass viele Frankfurt nicht mögen. Und ganz ehrlich ? I get it. Die Gegend um den Hauptbahnhof ist dunkel, gruselig und ich möchte dort insbesondere nachts nicht alleine rumlaufen. Aber dann sind da auch die schönen Gegenden und der faszinierende Kontrast zwischen der wunderschönen Altstadt und den modernen Wolkenkratzern.

We booked our journey with Omio, a website on which you can compare different ways to travel. Going by plane obviously wasn’t an option, but we compared time and prices of going by car and bus and besides the fact that taking the train is best for nature, it had the best time-price ratio – only 1.5 hours from cologne and wen payed about 50euros per person – half of what we’d have had to pay if we went by car. Not including parking bills.
Wir sind mit dem Zug nach Frankfurt gefahren – es ist nur eine 1, 5 h Fahrt und wohl definitiv die umweltfreundlichste Art zu Reisen. Natürlich haben wir trotzdem kurz überlegt, ob Auto oder sogar Bus die bessere Variante ist und haben Omio genutzt um es zu vergleichen. Die Bahn ist nicht nur mein Lieblingsverkehrsmittel, sondern hatte auch das beste Verhältnis von Preis und Reisezeit.
FOOD:
After arriving and checking into our hotel, we went to have a late breakfast at plants and cakes. They serve amazing vegan goodies and it was definitely one of my favourite foodplaces, if not my favorite – even though it was quite expensive. We actually planned to try the delicious-looking cakes, but were full after breakfast and when we returned there on sunday they were sold out already. Well, I guess that’s a good reason to pay Frankfurt another visit 😉
Nachdem wir angekommen waren und in unser Hotel eingescheckt hatten, sind wir direkt zu Plants & Cakes gegangen, um zu frühstücken. Etwas spät zugegebenermaßen, aber das Warten hat sich sowas von gelohnt! Die gesunden, Veganer Treats waren wirklich NEXT LEVEL. Wir wollten Sonntag eigentlich nochmal hin, um die Kuchen zu probieren, aber wir kamen leider so spät, dass alles ausverkauft war – definitiv ein Grund nochmal nach Frankfurt zu fahren ;).
Another foodplace I really liked was La Cucina – a restaurant in the Flemings Hotel next to the main train station. It’s not a usual italian restaurant, but a nice and calm place in the middle of the chaos of the train station- also the food was delicious.
Ein Restaurant, das ich auch empfehlen kann: La Cucina. Ein kleiner Italiener im Flemings direkt am Hauptbahnhof, ein kleiner Ruhepunkt im Chaos. Ja- die Gegend am Hauptbahnhof war nicht mein favourite. Leckere, typisch sizilianische Speisen.
DRINKS:
Looking for a gorgeous view to spend the evening ? A great cocktail ? LugInsLand is The place for you. It’s a Rooftopbar with a beautiful view over Frankfurt and the cocktails are amazing! The barkeeper even convinced us to try his special cocktail that included rum, which I usually hate. It’s like everything there tasted amazing. You can also eat there, but we haven’t tried. It’s upper class, but perfect for a special night.
Auf der Suche nach einer wunderschönen Skylineview und ein paar erstklassigen Cocktails ? Wir haben Samstag Abend noch einen kleinen Abstecher ins LugInsLand gemacht. Eine Skylinebar mit Restaurant. Wir haben allerdings nur eine Kleinigkeit gegessen & die Aussicht genossen. Wirklich wunderschön.
TO DO:
My favorite view – and actually favourite place in general was by the maineriver. It actually reminded me of New York – just with a little less skyscrapers, which are also a little less high. But it’s so beautiful and actually the most beautiful green space we found. Perfect for long walks.
Meine Lieblingsview – und eigentlich auch mein Lieblingsort- war definitiv das andere Mainufer – die Aussicht hat mich tatsächlich etwas an New York erinnert. Mit etwas kleineren und weniger Wolkenkratzern, aber die Aussicht ist trotzdem einen Spaziergang wert. Der „Park“ ist außerdem eine der schönsten Grünflächen, die wir in Frankfurt gefunden haben.
Besides that we just enjoyed some strolls through the city and the old town. I just love to stroll around without a final destination, enjoying the walk itself and exploring the city. So we did not to anything specific at all. Should we have ? Well, feel free to place your recommendations in the comments. It definitely wasn’t my last visit in Frankfurt.
Ansonsten haben wir uns einfach etwas durch die Straßen treiben lassen, die Altstadt erkundet und unsere Zeit genossen. Manchmal tut es einfach unglaublich gut ziellos umherzuwandern, in dem Wissen, das man nichts vor hat, keine Termine und einfach die unbekannten Straßen erkunden kann?
Ob wir etwas verpasst haben? You tell me 😉 Es war definitiv nicht mein letzter Trip nach Frankfurt & ich freue mich über jeden Tipp in dem Kommentaren.
